Lip Implants

Silicone lip Implants provide an increase in the lip size with a synthetic material, but the augmentation also can change the softness of the lip. We use a silicone implant, such as PermaLip®, that makes the lips feel more natural but with added volume. Advanta Lip is another lip implant that Dr. Bunkis uses that is firmer to the touch.

Fat Filler Via Liposuction

Fat is removed via liposuction from a part of your body, such as the abdomen, back, or thigh, the surgeon purifies that fat and injects it into the lips.

Injectable Fillers

Injectable fillers, such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, provide a temporary lip volume enhancement. This is a non-surgical option. If you don’t like the look of your lips, the fullness fades after six to 12 months.

Lip Augmentation FAQ

What Should You Expect During Lip Augmentation?

Surgery isn’t always needed for lip augmentation. The easiest technique is the lip enhancement injection option. Dr. Bunkis uses popular dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, for lip rejuvenation and enhancement. The ingredients in these dermal fillers enhance the shape of your lips and add volume.

Surgical lip procedures include dermal fat graft lip augmentation and lip implants. Both of these procedures a re performed on an outpatient basis. Fat injections are performed with local anesthesia, and lip implants may require general ort local anesthesia. Both types of lip augmentation are permanent.

Dermal fat graft lip augmentation is a two-step process. First, fat is harvested from a donor area via liposuction. Next, the fat is purified and injected into your lips. The surgeon performs multiple injections to shape and sculpt your lips.

For lip augmentation surgery with implants, incisions are made at the outer corners of the mouth. Silicone implants are inserted through these incisions and positioned to create a natural look. The incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures.

Lip Augmentation Recovery And Results

After lip fillers, you may experience some minor symptoms that are localized around the injection sites, such as swelling, tenderness, bruising, and pinpoint bleeding. Lip injections recovery time is typically only 48 to 72 hours, and no downtime is required. You can gently apply a cold compress to your lips. Avoid applying any pressure to your lips for the first seven days. Doing so may shift the lip filler and produce undesirable results. You will see the results of your lip injections within three to five days, including fuller lips and reduced lip lines.

If you choose lip implants or fat injections, your lip augmentation recovery may take several weeks. Expect your lips to be tender and sore for several days after the surgery. Scarring is very minimal with a lip augmentation surgery because the incision is placed inside the lips or along the natural crease. Once healed, the incision is barely noticeable at all. Lip augmentation after care instructions will be given to you before you are released to go home.

Lip implants are made with flexible, synthetic materials that are made to look and feel natural under the skin. With time, the swelling will subside, and the implant will integrate with the natural tissues and fibers of the lip. Patients who do not like their lip implants or change their mind in time can have them removed.

Fat grafts may be slowly absorbed by your body, and you may notice that the size of your lips is slowly reducing. Repeat treatments will be needed to maintain results.
